Regulation (EU) 2024/2847 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2024 on horizontal cybersecurity requirements for products with digital elements and amending Regulations (EU) No 168/2013 and (EU) No 2019/1020 and Directive (EU) 2020/1828 (Cyber Resilience Act) has been officially published. It establishes horizontal cybersecurity requirements for products with digital elements in the EU. The regulation introduces a uniform legal framework to adress widespread vulnerabilities in cybersecurity and inconsistent security updates. It aims to ensure the safety of products with digital elements throughout their lifecycle and to enable manufecturers to provide better security updates. In particular, it requires manufacturers to design and develop products with essential cybersecurity safeguards and address risks from connections to networks or other devices. Furthermore, the regulation identifies critical and high-risk products, such as smart home devices, which face stricter conformity assessments. The regulation promotes supply chain security.
