Council and Parliament find provisional deal on cyber security package

The European Union made a significant advance in its approach to cybersecurity with a provisional agreement reached between the Council and the European Parliament on a comprehensive cybersecurity package. This package includes a new regulation known as the “cyber solidarity act” and a targeted amendment to the existing Cybersecurity Act (CSA).

The “cyber solidarity act” aims to strengthen the EU’s cyber resilience by adopting a proactive strategy in response to cyber threats. This includes improving early detection and awareness of cyber threats and incidents, enhancing preparedness for critical infrastructure such as hospitals and utilities, fostering EU-wide solidarity for coordinated responses, and creating a more secure digital landscape across the EU. Key instruments established by the act include:

  1. This system comprises national and cross-border cyber hubs focused on sharing information and detecting threats.
  2. This mechanism seeks to improve the EU’s preparedness and response capabilities by promoting coordinated action during cyber incidents.
